Karolina Muchova – Nikola Bartunkova prediction for the match on October 8, 2026
On October 8, Karolina Muchova and Nikola Bartunkova will meet in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Beijing. Here is my prediction for this all-Czech clash.
Karolina Muchova
Muchova needs little introduction. She has been competing at the highest level for years and is currently the world No. 8, having climbed 11 places since the start of the season. This year, the tennis star won tournaments in Doha and Bad Homburg and came close to claiming a major title, but lost to compatriot Noskova in the Wimbledon final. Her achievements also include winning the Billie Jean King Cup with the Czech national team.
Muchova opened her Beijing campaign with a win over Britain's Katie Boulter, 7-6, 6-1, before overcoming neutral Russian athlete Lyudmila Samsonova, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Her match against former world No. 1 Naomi Osaka of Japan proved incredibly difficult and dramatic. Muchova prevailed 7-5, 1-6, 7-6, battling back from 1-3 down in the deciding set, and managed to win only on her ninth match point.
Nikola Bartunkova
Few people knew much about the young Czech before this season, as she was ranked in the middle of the world's second hundred. Bartunkova must now be taken seriously: she has climbed almost 100 places and currently sits 34th in the rankings.
The 20-year-old has not won any titles this year, but she has reached the third round at three majors and also made the semifinals in Monterrey. In Beijing, the Czech began with a convincing 6-2, 6-2 victory over Poland's Magdalena Fręch, then pulled off a major upset by knocking world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka out of the tournament, 6-4, 6-3. Bartunkova won her most recent match against Austria's Sinja Kraus, 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.
Match prediction
Muchova is the favorite in this all-Czech battle: she has more experience and is ranked higher. Although the two players are surely familiar with each other, they have never faced one another on tour. Bartunkova can no longer be called inexperienced, having played plenty of high-level matches this season. I expect an entertaining battle that could go either way, with the over 20.5 games market looking like an attractive option.
