How we rank betting sites?
In the online world, reliable and verified information plays a key role. As the number of betting sites grows, it is increasingly difficult for players to choose a trustworthy operator. That's why we strive to make the blind search easier by providing ratings and unbiased reviews to help users find the best platform to fulfil all requirements.
Choosing a bookmaker isn't just about finding the biggest welcome bonus or the highest odds. Reliability, payment speed, market coverage, and overall betting experience all play a major role in determining whether a sportsbook is worth recommending.
Every bookmaker featured on our website is evaluated using the same review process and assessment standards, ensuring fair comparisons across all operators.
Our Mission
Our goal is to help African players make better-informed decisions when choosing a betting site or online casino.
We do not rate operators based only on welcome bonuses, advertising claims or affiliate commissions. Every operator is assessed using a consistent methodology that considers legality, reputation, payments, betting value, platform quality, customer service and player protection.
Because gambling regulations, payment systems and available products differ across Africa, every review is market-specific. The same operator may receive different scores in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia or another country.
Our Principles
Independent Assessment
Commercial relationships do not determine our scores. An operator cannot purchase a higher rating or a better position by offering us a larger affiliate commission.
Transparent Scoring
We publish the criteria used in our reviews and explain how individual scores contribute to the final rating.
Local Relevance
We assess operators from the perspective of players in the country covered by each review. This includes local licensing, currencies, mobile payment methods, withdrawal limits, customer support availability and market-specific terms.
Regular Updates
Betting sites frequently change their bonuses, payment limits, apps, terms and withdrawal procedures. We review important changes and update ratings when they materially affect players.
Our Rating Categories
Every operator receives scores in five main categories.

- Mobile website quality
- Android and iOS app availability

- Navigation between sportsbook and casino products
Betting Product & Odds
This category measures the quality and value of the operator’s betting product.

- Sports and competition coverage
- Betting market depth
- Odds competitiveness

- Welcome offer value
- Free bets and ongoing promotions
Payments & Withdrawals
This category evaluates how easily players can deposit money and receive their winnings.
It includes:
- Local deposit methods
- Local withdrawal methods
- Withdrawal processing time
- Minimum and maximum withdrawal limits
- Daily and monthly payout limits
- Transaction fees
- Currency conversion charges
- Payment-related verification requirements
Customer Support
This category measures how effectively the operator assists players.
It includes:
- Available support channels
- Live chat response time
- Email response time
- Local-language assistance

- Willingness to investigate payment and account issues
Trust & Reliability

- Security and account protection
- Local market relevance
How the Overall Score Is Calculated
We use 16 individual criteria. Each criterion receives a score from 0 to 5.
The individual criteria are then grouped into the five main rating categories.
Step 1: Score Each Criterion
Each criterion is rated on the following scale:
| Score | Meaning |
| 5 | Exceptional |
| 4 | Very good |
| 3 | Acceptable |
| 2 | Below average |
| 1 | Poor |
| 0 | Unacceptable, unavailable or impossible to verify |
Decimal scores such as 3.5, 4.2 or 4.8 may be used when an operator falls between two levels.
Step 2: Calculate Each Category Score
The category score is the arithmetic mean of all criteria assigned to that category.
Category score = Total score of included criteria ÷ Number of included criteria
For example, an operator receives the following App & Website Usability scores:
- Website usability: 4.5
- Mobile website and app: 5.0
- Live features: 4.4
- Product navigation: 4.8
The category score is:
(4.5 + 5.0 + 4.4 + 4.8) ÷ 4 = 4.675
The displayed score is therefore:
App & Website Usability: 4.7/5
Step 3: Calculate the Overall Score
The Overall Score is the arithmetic mean of the five category scores.
Overall Score = Total of all five category scores ÷ 5
For example:
| Category | Score |
| App & Website Usability | 4.7 |
| Betting Product & Odds | 4.6 |
| Payments & Withdrawals | 4.6 |
| Customer Support | 4.8 |
| Trust & Reliability | 4.7 |
The final calculation is:
(4.7 + 4.6 + 4.6 + 4.8 + 4.7) ÷ 5 = 4.68
The final displayed rating is rounded to one decimal place.
Overall Score: 4.7/5
The category scores shown on the website are also rounded to one decimal place. However, the Overall Score is calculated using the original underlying values, which may include two decimal places. For this reason, manually calculating the average using only the displayed category scores may occasionally produce a slightly different result.
No affiliate, commercial or discretionary adjustment is added to the final score.
Rating Interpretation
| Overall Score | Rating |
| 4.8–5.0 | Outstanding |
| 4.5–4.7 | Excellent |
| 4.0–4.4 | Very good |
| 3.5–3.9 | Good |
| 3.0–3.4 | Average |
| 2.0–2.9 | Weak |
| 0–1.9 | Poor or potentially unsafe |
A score of 5.0 is reserved for an operator that performs exceptionally across every major category. Large bonuses or attractive odds cannot compensate for serious problems involving licensing, withdrawals or player safety.
Criteria We Evaluate
1. Local Licensing and Legal Status
We verify whether the operator is authorised to offer gambling services in the country covered by the review.
Our assessment may include:
- Licence status
- Licence number and issuing authority
- Approved website domains
- Legal company name
- Countries in which the operator is permitted to operate
- Regulatory warnings, suspensions or enforcement actions
A licence from another country does not automatically mean that an operator is legally authorised in the player’s local market.
Operators using unverifiable or misleading licence information may receive a score of zero and may be excluded from our rankings.
Category: Trust & Reliability
2. Player Reviews and Reputation
We analyse player feedback on independent review platforms, gambling communities, social media and consumer complaint websites.
We look beyond the average review score and consider:
- Number of complaints
- Type and severity of complaints
- Frequency of withdrawal problems
- Reports of account restrictions
- Reports of confiscated winnings
- Whether complaints appear genuine
- Whether the operator responds publicly
- Whether reported issues are eventually resolved
A small number of negative reviews does not automatically result in a low score. We focus on repeated patterns and documented problems.
Category: Trust & Reliability
3. Complaint Handling
This criterion measures how the operator responds when players experience serious problems.
We assess:
- Response time
- Willingness to investigate
- Quality of explanations
- Availability of an escalation procedure
- Cooperation with regulators or dispute-resolution bodies
- Percentage of complaints that appear to be resolved
- Use of personalised answers instead of automated responses
An operator may have fast live chat but still receive a weak complaint-handling score if complex cases are ignored.
Category: Customer Support
4. Sports and Betting Market Coverage
We assess both the number of sports available and the depth of betting markets offered within each event.
Our evaluation may include:
- Football
- Basketball
- Tennis
- Rugby
- Cricket
- Athletics
- Boxing and MMA
- Esports
- Local leagues and competitions
- International competitions
- Women’s and youth events
- Lower divisions
- Player statistics
- Corners, cards, shots and other specialised markets
- Outright and long-term markets
Offering many sports does not guarantee a high score if the markets within individual events are limited.
Category: Betting Product & Odds
5. Odds and Bookmaker Margin
We compare the operator’s odds across a representative selection of events and markets.
The bookmaker margin may be calculated using the implied probabilities of all possible outcomes.
For a two-outcome market:
Margin = (1 ÷ Odds A + 1 ÷ Odds B − 1) × 100
Lower margins generally indicate better value for players.
As a general guide:
| Average Margin | Assessment |
| Below 5% | Excellent |
| 5–7% | Good |
| 7–9% | Average |
| 9–11% | Below average |
| Above 11% | Poor |
We do not base the score on one high-profile match. Odds should be checked across different sports, competitions and market types.
Category: Betting Product & Odds
6. Payments, Limits, Fees and Withdrawal Speed
This is one of the most important criteria in our methodology.
We evaluate:
- Supported bank cards
- Bank transfers
- Mobile money
- E-wallets
- Local payment services
- Minimum deposit
- Minimum withdrawal
- Maximum withdrawal per transaction
- Daily and monthly withdrawal limits
- Deposit fees
- Withdrawal fees
- Currency conversion charges
- Average processing time
- Weekend processing
- Additional verification requirements
- Whether deposits must be wagered before withdrawal
The presence of a payment method does not guarantee a high score. We also consider whether it works reliably and whether it can be used for both deposits and withdrawals.
General Withdrawal Speed Benchmarks
| Processing Time | Assessment |
| Instant to 1 hour | Excellent |
| 1–24 hours | Very good |
| 1–3 business days | Acceptable |
| 4–7 business days | Poor |
| More than 7 business days | Serious concern |
Bank processing times outside the operator’s control are considered separately from the time the operator takes to approve a withdrawal.
Category: Payments & Withdrawals
7. Reliability and Operating History
Reliability is a broader assessment of the company behind the gambling platform.
We consider:
- Number of years in operation
- Stability of the brand
- Transparency of ownership
- History of licence suspensions
- Financial disputes
- Previous brand names
- Changes of ownership
- Record of paying legitimate winnings
- Consistency of terms and conditions
- Communication during technical or payment problems
A new operator is not automatically unreliable, but it may receive a more cautious score until it establishes a longer operating history.
Category: Trust & Reliability
8. Customer Support
We contact customer support with practical questions and assess the quality of the experience.
We evaluate:
| Parameter | Strong Performance | Weak Performance |
| Support channels | Live chat, email and telephone or messaging support | Email only |
| Live chat response | Within 1–2 minutes | More than 10 minutes |
| Email response | Within several hours | More than 24 hours |
| Answer quality | Clear and specific | Generic or irrelevant |
| Local knowledge | Understands local payments and account rules | Provides incorrect market information |
| Resolution | Solves or properly escalates the issue | Repeats scripted responses |
Support availability is checked against the hours advertised by the operator.
Category: Customer Support
9. Localisation and African Market Relevance
An international operator should provide a service that works properly for players in the market it targets.
We evaluate:
- Local currency support
- Local payment methods
- Local telephone numbers
- Relevant languages
- Local sports and competitions
- Market-specific promotions
- Clear local terms and conditions
- Appropriate verification options
- Availability of responsible gambling information
- Quality of the platform on commonly used mobile devices and connections
Simply accepting registrations from a country is not the same as providing a properly localised service.
Category: Trust & Reliability
10. Responsible Gambling
We assess the availability and effectiveness of player-protection tools.
These may include:
- Deposit limits
- Betting limits
- Loss limits
- Session reminders
- Reality checks
- Cooling-off periods
- Temporary account suspension
- Permanent self-exclusion
- Access to gambling-support organisations
- Clear information about gambling risks
- Restrictions on promotional messages after self-exclusion
The tools should be easy to find and activate. Players should not be pressured to reverse a limit or cancel a self-exclusion request.
Category: Trust & Reliability
11. Website Usability
We evaluate how easy it is to find events, markets, account settings and payment information.
Our checks include:
- Page loading speed
- Navigation
- Search function
- Bet slip usability
- Market organisation
- Account history
- Transaction history
- Visibility of important rules
- Stability during live betting
- Intrusive banners or pop-ups
- Accessibility of responsible gambling settings
A platform should remain understandable even when it offers thousands of markets.
Category: App & Website Usability
12. Mobile Website and Betting App
We test the mobile experience separately from the desktop platform.
We consider:
- Mobile website quality
- Android app availability
- iOS app availability
- App installation process
- App-store availability
- APK security and authenticity
- Login stability
- Loading speed
- Data usage
- Bet slip performance
- Mobile payment integration
- Push notification controls
- Biometric login
- App crashes and technical errors
An operator can still receive a good score without a native app if its mobile website provides a fast and complete betting experience.
Category: App & Website Usability
13. Welcome Offer
We judge welcome bonuses by their realistic value, not by the largest advertised number.
We examine:
- Minimum deposit
- Maximum bonus
- Wagering requirement
- Minimum qualifying odds
- Number of selections required
- Expiry period
- Maximum stake during wagering
- Maximum convertible winnings
- Eligible sports and markets
- Payment-method restrictions
- Country-specific exclusions
- Verification requirements
A smaller bonus with fair terms may receive a higher score than a large bonus that is extremely difficult to withdraw.
Category: Betting Product & Odds
14. Free Bets and Other Ongoing Promotions
We assess promotions available after the initial registration offer.
These may include:
- Free bets
- Odds boosts
- Cashback
- Accumulator insurance
- Early payout offers
- Loyalty rewards
- Referral programmes
- Reload bonuses
- Tournament promotions
- Casino free spins
We also check whether promotions automatically opt players in, contain hidden restrictions or encourage excessive gambling.
Category: Betting Product & Odds
15. Live Betting and Streaming
We evaluate the operator’s in-play betting experience.
This includes:
- Number of live events
- Speed of odds updates
- Market suspensions
- Depth of live markets
- Match statistics
- Visual match trackers
- Cash-out availability
- Partial cash out
- Live streaming
- Streaming quality
- Delay between the event and the platform
- Stability on mobile connections
An operator is not penalised solely because it cannot legally stream a particular competition.
Category: App & Website Usability
16. Casino and Additional Games
For operators that combine sports betting with casino products, we assess:
- Number of games
- Range of game types
- Recognised software providers
- Live casino
- Slots
- Table games
- Crash games
- Game search and filtering
- Mobile game performance
- Availability of game rules and return-to-player information
- Separation of sportsbook and casino balances
- Casino-specific bonus terms
For sportsbook-only operators, this criterion is treated as not applicable rather than automatically receiving a zero.
When a criterion is not applicable, it is excluded from the relevant category calculation.

How We Test Operators
1. Legal and Company Research
We verify the operator’s licence, ownership, approved domains and legal availability in the relevant country.
2. Registration and Verification
Where permitted, we create an account and review the registration and identity-verification process.
3. Deposit Testing
We examine available payment methods, deposit limits, fees and processing times.
4. Platform Testing and Odds Comparison
We test navigation, mobile performance, the bet slip, live betting, casino sections and account-management features. Along we compare odds across different events, sports and betting markets rather than relying on a single match.
6. Customer Support Testing
We contact support with both simple and more detailed questions. When possible, we test the service at different times and through more than one channel.
7. Withdrawal Testing
Where practical, we request a withdrawal and record the approval time, verification requirements, fees and final payment time.
8. Reputation Analysis
We investigate player complaints, regulatory information and patterns of recurring problems.
9. Scoring and Editorial Review
The individual criterion scores are calculated, grouped into the five rating categories and checked by an editor before publication.
Red Flags That Reduce an Operator’s Rating
The following issues may significantly reduce a score:
- Unclear or unverifiable licensing information
- Repeated unresolved withdrawal complaints
- Withdrawal delays without a reasonable explanation
- Hidden transaction fees
- Very low withdrawal limits
- Misleading bonus advertising
- Unreasonable wagering conditions
- Sudden requests for unnecessary documents
- Confiscation of winnings without clear evidence of a rule violation
- Incorrect or contradictory support responses
- Missing responsible gambling tools
- Insecure or unofficial app downloads
- Unclear company ownership
- Terms and conditions that can be changed retroactively
Automatic Exclusion From Our Rankings
An operator may be excluded entirely when we find credible evidence of:
- A fake or misrepresented licence
- Systematic non-payment of legitimate winnings
- Fraudulent activity
- Deliberate misuse of player identity documents
- Operation in a market where the operator is clearly prohibited
- Confirmed manipulation of games or balances
- Failure to honour valid self-exclusion requests
- Serious regulatory action that makes recommending the operator unsafe
An excluded operator does not receive a normal rating merely because it offers attractive odds or bonuses.
Why Readers Can Trust Our Ratings
Transparent Methodology
The criteria and calculation method are publicly available. We do not use undisclosed multipliers or manually increase scores after testing.
Market-Specific Reviews
We do not assume that one operator provides the same experience throughout Africa. Licensing, payments, bonuses and support are evaluated for the relevant country.
Evidence-Based Assessment
Scores are based on verifiable operator information, platform testing, payment conditions, odds comparisons and documented player feedback.
Regular Reviews
Scores may be updated when an operator changes its licence, ownership, payment methods, withdrawal rules, apps, bonuses or responsible gambling tools.
Commercial Independence
We may receive compensation when readers register through links on our website. This supports the operation of the site but does not determine an operator’s score.
A betting site offering a higher affiliate commission does not receive a higher rating. Serious problems involving payments, licensing, support or player safety are included in our reviews regardless of the commercial relationship.
Changes in Methodology
We may update this methodology when gambling regulations, payment technologies, betting products or player-protection standards change.
The most recent version will always be published on this page.
