Jannik Sinner vs Shintaro Mochizuki Prediction and Betting Tips - July 5, 2026
On July 5, Jannik Sinner and Shintaro Mochizuki will face each other in the fourth round of Wimbledon. Here is my prediction for their match-up.
Jannik Sinner
The Italian is having a mixed season: he has won five tournaments in a row, delivering a fantastic winning streak, but on the other hand, he has not captured any Grand Slams this year and his performances at majors have not been at his usual high standard.
Sinner began his Wimbledon campaign with a hard-fought victory over Serbian Kecmanović – 4:6, 6:3, 6:7, 6:2, 6:3. In the second round, he overcame Portugal's Borges – 7:6, 7:6, 6:4. In his most recent match, he defeated American Brooksby in straight sets – 6:4, 6:3, 6:4. It is worth noting that Sinner is the reigning Wimbledon champion and the current world number one, making him one of the main favorites for the tournament.
Shintaro Mochizuki
The Japanese player is relatively unknown to the wider public, although he has played at least five full seasons on the tour. He began this year ranked 99th and is now down to 151st, with only 12 wins in 32 matches this season.
Mochizuki began his Wimbledon journey in the qualifiers, defeating Ukrainian Sachko – 6:3, 7:6, then Belgian Onclin – 6:2, 4:6, 6:3, and in the final, he overcame France’s Tabur – 1:6, 7:5, 2:6, 6:3, 6:1.
In the main draw, he started with a win over Britain’s Basing – 6:3, 6:0, 6:0, then beat American Quinn – 6:2, 7:6, 7:5. In the third round, he managed to defeat a top-30 Spaniard, Hodar – 1:6, 7:6, 6:4, 6:4. The Japanese player is making a major breakthrough, although it is worth mentioning that he has already won the junior Wimbledon title in 2019.
Prediction
The players have not met on tour before, and in their first head-to-head encounter, the Italian is a heavy favorite. This is logical, considering the world number one is facing a player ranked in the middle of the second hundred. Bookmakers do not even believe the Japanese player will win a set, let alone the match. Sinner is certainly stronger, but I consider a bet on total games over 26.5 at odds of 1.6 a promising one here.
