In Australia, online betting using credit cards has been prohibited
The Australian Federal Parliament has passed a law banning online betting using credit cards.
The federal government introduced this new law, prohibiting this payment method. The changes align with the recommendations from a 2021 parliamentary investigation that urged for the prohibition, estimating that this trend could constitute up to 20% of deposits into gaming accounts.
The country's Minister for Communications, Michelle Rowland, previously stated that people should not be betting with money they don't have.
While members of the Responsible Wagering Committee in Australia support this legislative decision, CEO Kai Kantwell expressed some concerns.
"It's uncomfortable to see other forms of gambling like lotteries and keno excluded from the ban, especially when lotteries are the most common form of gambling in Australia and are typically accessible to people from lower socio-economic backgrounds," - he stated.
