Alfa Romeo has disclosed the reasons behind their departure from Formula 1
The Italian car manufacturer collaborated with the Sauber team, which bore the Alfa Romeo name for the past two seasons. After the contract ended, there were reports suggesting the company might join forces with Haas. However, Alfa Romeo has shifted its focus to the World Endurance Championship.
Alfa Romeo's CEO, Jean-Philippe Imparato, commented on the company's departure from Formula 1:
'I would say these were the best investments in our history. We can say that for every euro spent, we gained 20 in terms of image. At the same time, it's a bit sad that we are leaving the team that carried our brand for six years, building extraordinary relationships,' as reported by Autosport.
Alfa Romeo opted not to renew the title sponsorship contract with Sauber after the team started collaborating with Audi. Although the Ingolstadt-based brand officially debuts in Formula 1 only in 2026, the past season marked the Swiss team's last season in the red and white livery.
In the concluded 2023 season, the Alfa Romeo team secured 9th place in the Constructors' Championship, accumulating only 16 points throughout the season. Its drivers were Guanyu Zhou from China and the Finn Valtteri Bottas.
